Last Month's Dinner Summary
December:

Dinner was held at the
Dimitris' Restaurant

We had almost 100 people attend the Christmas dinner. A good time was had by all! There were a lot of prizes this year—a “share the wealth” raffle which took in a total of $336.00. Half of that went to the CPOA ($168.00). The other half was split various ways: two prizes of $16.80 each to Shanon Blind and Chief Chris Shell; two prizes of $33.60 each to Alison Ross and Chief James Holmes, and one of $67.20 to Chief Catherine Owen.

There was a challenge coin from USS NEW YORK (ship contains part of the World Trade Center towers) donated by Jerry Murphy. This was won by Senior Chief Skip Tusa.

Chief Bob Pallat made two commemorative bricks from the old Navy Reserve Center (NOSC Cleveland). These were raffled off. The first winner: Chief Judd, did not want the brick so he asked the CPOA to auctioned it off. The bidding started at $5. Captain Dillon wanted that brick and was not going to lose. He succeeded with a top bid of $50. Chief Judd donated $40 of that back to the CPOA. The second raffled brick was won by Chief Galland, who also wanted the CPOA to auction it. That brick was bought by Chief Catherine Owen after another spirited round of auctioning also with a top bid of $50.

Progressive raffle was not held, so the pot remains $25.00.

We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and wish all a Happy New Year!

Thanks to all who could attend.
Your presence made it a success. It's always great to get together!

Progressive raffle winner: Not Held .
Pot starts again at $25.00.

Remember, your dues must be paid up to win the progressive.

THE LEGAL BEAGLE WANTS TO KNOW

Rules are the same as they always have been:
1) First person with the most correct answers wins.
2) Duplicate prizes will not be awarded because there are none!
Decisions and answers of the Legal Beagle are final, since I do all the research.
January's questions:

1. According to the 1944 Bluejacket’s Manual, where are all clothes and other effects found adrift placed?
2. What torpedo is being phased out of use on surface ships and what is replacing it (by end of FY 2012)? TMC(SW) Pallat is not eligible to answer this question.
3. Is supercargo some extra special “stuff” carried in the hold? If not, what is the meaning of this word?
4. What are two meanings for the word “scuttle?”
5. What happened in the Navy on 4 January, 100 years ago? Think about “that state up north.”
